THE NEW JUNE CONTENT!
rounding up the June 2025 content on RissiWrites.com
Hey reader! Late though this is (I promise it was on my to-do list on Tuesday the first, and I even remembered, but apparently, then I forget), here is the roundup of content from RW this past month.
Same as is “normal” for any month, we have several new reviews, lists (characters and lists, too), plus more! Let’s dive in and see what’s new.
New from Wednesday!
‘HEADS OF STATE’: ACTION COMEDY ABOUT WORLD LEADERS
One of those movies people will either love or hate, Heads of State has a unique trio as the face of its story. The story follows Prime Minister Sam Clarke (Idris Elba), a leader who is in need of a bit of damage control. He isn’t exactly loved in the way he once was and he’s also mourning a loss. But what doesn’t help is he’s not getting along with a fellow leader. His participating opponent is the U.S. President Will Derringer (John Cena) are having a feud that isn’t friendly, and what’s worse, it’s happing in the public eye.
Film and TV Reviews
‘THE DEVIL’S TEARDROP’: FOURTH OF JULY MYSTERY HAS GOOD CAST
A film from way back when that probably didn’t get much hype, The Devil’s Teardrop is one of those lower budget flicks that has recognizable stars and is a decent way to spend a couple of hours.
‘THE PEANUT BUTTER FALCON’ IS STORY OF UNUSUAL FRIENDSHIP
A famous film from back in 2019, The Peanut Butter Falcon has high user ratings and is popular among audiences. Despite this, it wasn’t one I ever saw. But as I’m exploring some more unusual films, I finally did.
‘THE APARTMENT’: A 1960s DRAMA THAT IS SURPRISING AND DIFFERENT
Featuring “it” stars of its era (and one we still know now), The Apartment is entertaining but also doesn’t play out in the way I would envision.
‘A MACHU PICCHU PROPOSAL’: THE ONE THAT IS A LITTLE TOO SIMILAR
The final (new) Hallmark debut for a bit, A Machu Picchu Proposal marks another final which is the last in their Passport to Paris flicks. We visit new places this week in a story that just doesn’t go to plan for its heroine, Katie (Rhiannon Fish). She has grand (scheduled) plans on her trip to Machu Picchu which she was talked into by her brother. You see, he has big plans, which include proposing to the love of his life,
‘JOURNEY OF MY HEART’ TAKES HEROINE ON ADVENTURE
One of those “tacked on” titles to a past Summer Night’s campaign, Journey of my Heart has the familiar Rhiannon Fish in the lead and is a role we’ve seen her play before.
‘SMOKE’ APPLE TV+ REVIEW: AN INTENSE MYSTERY MAKES USE OF A GOOD CAST
A new drama with Apple TV+, Smoke is quite intense but also has a buzzy cast.
‘THE PERFECT COUPLE’ IS EMPTY AND MESSY BUT TRIES HAPPY END
Why I do not know, but dramas like Netflix’s The Perfect Couple are trending and each of the “big” streamers has their own version. Late to the party though I am, let’s see what this one is all about.
‘COUNTDOWN’ PRIME VIDEO REVIEW IS NOT A NEW MYSTERY, BUT STILL A GOOD ONE
A new mystery thriller from Prime Video, Countdown is fast-paced and quite fun, though it may not stand out from the pack.
…Plus, there is more reviews to browse! I didn’t include all of June’s new offerings.
Lists and Things!
SOME OF THE GORGEOUS VERSIONS OF JANE AUSTEN’S TIMELESS NOVELS
In this year 2025, the world and life of Jane Austen celebrates big anniversaries. Not only is Austen’s December birthday marking 250 years, but the two iconic adaptations of her novel Pride and Prejudiced also have BIG celebratory anniversaries this year. So yeah, if ever there would a year to celebrate Austen in a big way, this would be one of them. As a silly little way to further the confetti this week, we’re looking at some of the gorgeous editions of Jane Austen books you can currently snag from your favorite bookstore.
JULY 2025 NEW BOOK RELEASE GIVEAWAY
Enter to win a new release (book) from the month of July!
10+ OF THE CHRISTMAS MOVIES THAT FEEL LIKE SUMMER
July is here and while I am not one of those people and don’t ever see myself as being such a person, everyone is giddy over the Christmas in July hype. One of the ways this is encouraged is through networks like Hallmark or GAF re-airing fan and network favorite Christmas movies. Inspired by this and in spite of my lack of love for Christmas during the summer, I thought I’d look into what summer Christmas movies there are. Or even if there are any.
SUMMER BUCKET LIST – LET’S HAVE A LITTLE FUN!
Summertime may have unofficially been here for over a month now, but officially, it just began this past week. As a result, we’re having a bit of fun and putting together a little summer bucket list. A list that is meant solely for fun and no other purpose, which is something that seems to beg an add-on to the post adding because the Internet is, well… it’s crazy. So yes, this list is for fun and meant for that purpose only. So, let’s have some fun.
HALLMARK JULY 2025 SCHEDULE: GO ON A CRUISE AND SEE LAST YEAR MOVIES DEBUT!
July is almost here and while most of us (or likely this is just me) aren’t into winter-y or Christmas things now but rather summertime, Hallmark is all about its Christmas in July campaign. This year, there is no new movie debuting, but rather the Hallmark July 2025 schedule will repurpose a foursome of flicks from last year.
‘THE APARTMENT’ IS 65 YEARS YOUNG! CELEBRATING THE MOVIE IN ITS ANNIVERSARY YEAR
Like so many films before it, a well-loved title that I haven’t seen is one I’m only just now seeing. In this case, it’s some six decades late. Another big movie anniversary is here and so now we are celebrating The Apartment 65 years later. A film that is feel-good in one manner, but then verges into something more serious.
Plus, there is lots more too, like ‘Top Ten Tuesday’ lists.
